Med inspiration från Birka. Inspired by Birka.

During winter I made a beautiful dress for a friend of mine. She lives in the area close to Birka (sort of...) and therefore it felt natural to be inspired by the many finds from there, with different forms of silk appliqués. The dress is made of linen fabric with samit woven silk/hemp fabric around the neck and sleeve cuffs.
It's hard to see the colours in the photos, but that's what happens when it's to cold and dark to shoot outside.

Här är bilder i bättre ljus men då utan utfyllande människa inuti.
Here are pics in better light, but without a filling up human inside.
The shape of the neck can be seen in various contemporary manuscripts from the continent.
The dress is sewn on the machine but filled with fine hand-finished details.
In Dublin, they have found the remains of several loose silk edges with traces of sewing holes. They have been interpreted to have been sitting around the cuffs of the garment of linen sewn with linen thread, the flax has been decomposed while the silk is still preserved.
